SACRED VALLEY TOUR WITH SHORT INCA TRAIL ROUTE AND TOUR IN CUSCO

One of the best options to visit Cusco and its main attractions is this 5-day tour that has it all. We will start with the pick-up upon your arrival in Cusco from the airport or Terrapuerto or regional bus station. After that, and as agreed, we will travel to your hotel. The first of the activities on this tour will begin once you have settled into your hotel.

The City Tour will be scheduled for the first day. This tour is short and ideal for getting to know Cusco and its main attractions. The next day it is time to make the trip to the Sacred Valley of the Incas which will take the whole day. For the third day we begin the adventure along the 2-day Inca Trail. Likewise, we will be able to see Machu Picchu from the upper platform in the afternoon of the third day.

On the fourth day, you will take the tour of Machu Picchu with a professional tour guide. In the afternoon, we will go to the train station in Machu Picchu Pueblo, from where the return to Cusco begins. Once in Cusco, we will take you to your hotel so you can rest. On the fifth day, we will coordinate the pick-up time to transport you to the airport so you can continue with your trip.

At TheSacredValley.com, we offer several services that can be added to the standard service. We also have a team of specialists and advisors so that you can adapt the activities to your needs. We offer special offers and during the 5 days of activities on this tour, we will be available to help you with any questions. Don’t think twice and dare to take part in this adventure in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Can you really do the Sacred Valley route and then do the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu?

Yes, and it is completely safe to do so. This applies to all days of the year except for the month of February. If you want to do this tour in February, it will not be possible. Instead, you should only do the trip to Machu Picchu. The main reason for this is that during February the Inca Trail route, in its two variations, goes into maintenance and protection due to the rainy season.

The Short Inca Trail tour already allows you to enter Machu Picchu, meaning you don’t need to make another reservation compared to other hiking routes. During the first day of the hike (third day of the tour) you can already see Machu Picchu. The average arrival time is just at sunset. You can only do the route from Inti Punku to the Guardian’s House and the main viewpoint.

Being there will be the ideal time to take the classic postcard photo. The next day’s tour continues with Circuit 2 of Machu Picchu, so you can take a tour of the main attractions of Machu Picchu. As for the tours of the first days, there are no restrictions.

That is to say, both the Cusco City Tour on the first day and the Sacred Valley Tour can be done throughout the year. If you are planning to do a long tour in the month of February, you will not be able to do the Inca Trail, but you will be able to do the other hiking routes. Our travel advisors can help you throughout the decision-making and planning process of a new adventure that may or may not include trekking routes.

We also recommend that you have a plan for your trip. This is why it is recommended to make reservations in advance. The advance notice for this route can be 4 to 6 weeks in advance. However, during the high season you should do it at least 2 months in advance or the equivalent of 8 weeks. Only then can you ensure that you can make the tour through the Sacred Valley, the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.

What is the tour in Cusco and the trip to the Sacred Valley like? Will we make any connections during the activities?

The first activities of this tour are easy to carry out, starting with the City Tour in Cusco. This first service may seem complicated due to the little time you have to prepare, however, you will have our advice even long before you make the trip to Cusco. This way you can better accommodate all the activities to be carried out during the tour.

This first tour lasts only 5 hours and does not present any difficulty when making the journey. This, at the same time, makes it ideal for necessary acclimatization. The rest of the activities, especially the Inca Trail, where we will walk to Machu Picchu. This will be the only point where we will have to make a connection.

The connection of this tour is made during the train trip. This will take place during the third day, specifically at kilometer 104 of the railway network. Our group will get off with all their belongings, cross the bridge and once in Chachabamba, we will begin to register and prepare our belongings to begin the walk.

That afternoon we will arrive at Machu Picchu, from where we will be able to watch the sunset. At night we will be able to rest at the hotel we have booked. Likewise, to return to Cusco there are all the necessary services for a comfortable trip. There is also a possibility of making a connection when boarding the buses in Ollantaytambo. We are talking about the bimodal service that will probably also be used on the outbound trip. This connection does not require long journeys or complicated activities.

Can I add more services to those provided in the tour package?

We strive to ensure that our clients have the best experience in the Sacred Valley or on the multi-day tours we offer. That is why we offer several additional services that can be the perfect complement for clients looking for more experiences and services during their stay in Cusco.

Of course, you will have to make the reservation with the necessary advance notice to acquire the desired services and/or tickets. Without further ado, we leave you with some of the services that can be purchased for an additional price.

  • Completely private transportation and service.
  • Improve the standard of hotel service we offer in Cusco and Machu Picchu Pueblo.
  • Add a guided service in a language other than Spanish or English.
  • Guide service to other destinations. This service is for other destinations not indicated in the tour.
  • Entrance ticket to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (you can add any other entrance ticket to Machu Picchu).
  • Luxury travel on PeruRail or Inca Rail trains with advance reservation.
  • Option to complement the tour with other destinations such as: travel to the Mountain of Colors, Humantay Lagoon and even make the trip to the South Valley.
What archaeological sites can be visited during the 5-day Sacred Valley and Inca Trail tour?

Cusco was the capital of the entire Inca empire. In other words, it was the political and religious centre of one of the largest civilisations in the world in terms of territory. The Inca culture dominated the north and south of present-day Peru for a long time. The incredible network of roads or Qhapac Ñam can still be found as vestiges of this feat.

In this sense and thanks to a formidable architecture, even more than 450 years later, you can still find important vestiges of this culture or civilization. On this 5-day tour we will be able to appreciate a great number of attractions and Inca constructions. This tour is ideal to learn more about the history and also to go into the depths and high mountains that will take us on foot to the high jungle where Machu Picchu is located. By taking the Sacred Valley and Short Inca Trail tour in Cusco for 5 days, you can learn more about these archaeological sites.

  • Cusco Cathedral – Located in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, during the tour you can appreciate the decorations in gold, silver and wood carvings. In addition, the guide will give us details of its construction.
  • Sacsayhuamán – Located less than 30 minutes from Cusco, this is surely one of the most important constructions of the Incas. From Sacsayhuamán you can see the entire city of Cusco.
  • Qenqo – Located very close to Sacsayhuamán, it allows you to appreciate a large stone construction in the shape of an altar and some underground tunnels.
  • Tambomachay – This is one of the water sites that is still in operation. It contains Inca buildings of the imperial type, the most important of the Inca culture.
  • Pucapucara – This is one of the buildings that served as a resting place and military storage. It is located on a mountain and has the characteristics of a fortress.
  • Písac – It is an Inca citadel, where you can see a sector dedicated to agriculture, temples of different kinds, warehouses or colcas and also an Inca cemetery.
  • Ollantaytambo – A famous construction is the Temple of the Sun and all the terraces that serve to protect this place. You can learn more about the war between Manco Inca against the Spanish and the ethnic groups allied to them.
  • Chinchero – This is an Inca site of great value. You can visit the palace of the Inca Túpac Yupanqui and also the colonial church. In addition, you can appreciate beautiful landscapes.
  • Qhapac Ñam or Inca Trail – Begin the hike to Machu Picchu appreciating the shapes and details of the entire network of roads and the variation they have with the geography in which they are built. An excellent engineering work by the inhabitants of ancient Cusco.
  • Chachabamba – This is the starting point of the route to Machu Picchu. There is a small modern camp and nearby the ruins of Inca buildings with important temples.
  • Wiñayhuayna – Halfway along the route we will arrive at this place. We can see imposing terraces and several Inca buildings at the top. The water channels, the temples and the beautiful views of all the mountains stand out.
  • Inti Punku – In the afternoon we will have our first glimpse of Machu Picchu. We will arrive at the original checkpoint of Machu Picchu, the Inti Punku. It offers beautiful views of the wonder of the world.
  • Machu Picchu – The main attraction of this 5-day tour. On the fifth day you can take a tour of the main temples and other buildings of this Inca citadel.
Are there any restrictions for taking the 5-day Sacred Valley and Inca Trail tour?

This 5-day tour offers the Short Inca Trail route. The only restriction on this tour is that the Inca Trail in its two variations has a break during the month of February. That is, it will not be possible to do any of the routes during the entire month of February.

The main reason for this suspension is that a restoration of the route and the archaeological sites that can be visited along the route is beginning. The pause is also being made for safety reasons, since weather conditions can cause delays and even accidents.

There are no restrictions as to the other destinations or services that can be offered. The trip to the Cusco City Tour and the Sacred Valley of the Incas can be done without any problem even during the month of February. If you want to do this tour, you can do other hiking routes or just a classic trip to Machu Picchu. Our travel advisors will help you completely free of charge.

In the case of the services necessary to complete this 5-day tour, there are also no restrictions. All services such as transportation and hotels will be ready for use on the date you make the reservation. Something that should be taken into account is that, to do the tour of Machu Picchu, it is not permitted to enter with sharp objects, large backpacks and cameras or professional recording equipment.
